From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. In folklore, fiction, philosophy, and popular culture, a ghost is the soul or spirit of a deceased person, taken to be capable of appearing in visible form or otherwise manifesting itself to the living. Descriptions of the apparition of ghosts vary widely: the mode of manifestation can range from an invisible presence to translucent or wispy shapes, to realistic, life-like visions. The deliberate attempt to contact the spirit of a deceased person is known as necromancy, or in spiritism as a séance. The belief in manifestations of the spirits of the dead is widespread, dating back to animism or ancestor worship in pre-literate cultures. Certain religious practices—funeral rites, exorcisms, and some practices of spiritualism and ritual magic—are specifically designed to appease the spirits of the dead. Ghosts are generally described as solitary essences that haunt particular locations, objects, or people with which they were associated in life, though stories of phantom armies, ghost trains, phantom ships, and even ghost animals have also been recounted. GNU Free Documentation License How did ghosts manage before electrical appliances were commonplace? Q. People seem to believe that ghosts draw energy from appliances and batteries and yet ghost stories have been around since before those things were invented, how did ghosts cope without electricity in the past? Also, where did the idea of ghosts using electricity originate? Asked by faithless - Mon Nov 24 19:59:54 2008 - - 6 Answers - 1 Comments A. Actually, ghosts don't "draw energy from appliances and batteries", but rather, from people's imaginations, just in the same was as do the Easter Bunny and Shrek and Mickey Mouse and Dopey and Sleepy. Answered by Sessha - Sat Apr 17 12:09:05 2010 Is it possible that ghosts could exist on waves that are unknowable to the human mind?
Q. You know how we talk about radio waves and x rays and we can detect these using technology. BUT what if ghosts exists on waves that are yet to be discovered. Is this a possibility. Of course I believe for this to be even considered, the ghosts must have some sort of transparency but it could still be possible right? Waves: Electromagnetic spectrum (somewhere in that scale) but a wavethat is not detected yet. Ghosts: Something that shows some characteristics of a livving thing. But if they sit on electro-magnetic waves, undetectable in any way - then that's a good place for them.
