Chicago: History-filled places to see, The Off-beat, Hauntings, True Crime, Gangsters, etc.?
Q. A friend & I are going to Chicago & we've never been there. We love history- the weirder, the better, and we'd like to focus our trip around off-beat places to explore. It seems there is so much in Chicago regarding its mobster history and so-called "hauntings", that we're not sure which places are the best to visit. We're cemetary buffs, as well, and if there's anything to do that is strange like touring a deserted prison (not sure if the one I'm thinking of is in Chicago or not..).. well, you get the drift.. Please answer if you know of something we might like to do while in Chicago, and explain a bit about it. I'm doing searches myself, but I just don't know where to focus yet. Thanks a lot! We tend to skip over museums unless… [cont.]

A. Check out the Chicago historical society for haunting tours or cemetary tours. I know there is a tour company that specializes in the haunted history. I think it is called Chicago hauntings and it is a 3 hour bus tour.

How do I find out about hauntings in my area?
Q. I'm definitely interested in the paranormal. My question is how do I find out about hauntings in my area. I just want to know what places are "haunted" and the story behind the spirits that inhabit the land. If you could give me a website that would be really helpful, also if you could just look it up for me, anything in New York, in the Hudson Valley region. Anything you could give me would be amazing. Thanks in advance.

A. You should also be able to go to your local bookstore or Library and find non-fiction books on Hauntings. I know my local Hastings & BooksAMilllion, carry books on Hauntings for the state and region I live in. You may also be able to check w/a historical society in the area you live in.

Hauntings connected with religious beliefs?
Q. I have been studying ghosts for years, but I have noted that the majority of hauntings around the world are concentrated in America and the UK.. I mean, not many hauntings are reported in other places around the world compared.. Why is this? Does it have something to do with religious beliefs about the afterlife? Most of America and the UK are Anglican/Protestant.. so I'm wondering if this has anything to do with hauntings? PS- to Fourmorebeers: I read the legends connected with hauntings in Asia.. but pleaseee.. try spending a week in the UK pal.. the place is a hotbed of paranormal activity.. thousands upon thousands of haunted locations everywhere you go. America is pretty close. But Asia? I wouldnt say so.

A. Well, having experienced many oddities here, there are just as many, maybe more from the Middle East (supposedly where mankind got its start). My ex's family was from Lebanon, and a lot of them personally experienced phantom (or not) happenings. Maybe by coincidence, when few of them would gather in our house, some very heavy things would start happening. I had a two level glass table explode when my brother-in-law was handing a his cousin a sketched piece of paper, regarding an incident that happened in his house (believe it was circa 60's) in Beirut. Just as the two hands touched the paper, the bottom tier of the glass table exploded upward into a zillion pieces. Thank God for the top glass! Albeit wasn't tempered glass, it was heavy-duty [cont.]

Does Anybody Know This Number?
Q. Austin, Michaela, and Nicky, my friends, and I were googling hauntings in places and how to know if you are haunted or such. We came across a number, and read above it that if you call only on the hours of early 12 and 1, that you can hear a woman screaming for help. Any other daylight hours, the number becomes busy. I wanted to try out that number, and therefore, I cannot find it. Can anyone help me out?

A. The supernatural is real my friend. The spirit world is indeed real and their are demons or entities that can plague and torment mankind. If you don't believe it look at history. Hitler was indeed influenced by a supernatural entity for what man could have so much hatred in his heart to carry out the extinction of an entire race of human beings? You best believe it was the devil himself. the world is where Satan walks but God does keep him on shackles so he doesn't get too carried away. The Bell Witch was probably another entity of evil that plagued this family by tormenting them. you have too understand that a witch is a human who manifest the dark powers of the world. An entity however is something that has never been born from the womb… [cont.]

Yet the last 2 years has remained very good. Items left in 1 place are lost, only to be found in the same place in our home she kept them. The most disturbing is the phone calls. A. First of all, the obvious possibilities are electrical problems (eg, wiring) and passing cars forming shadows with thier headlights. The mundane being said, I would make three guesses at the nature of any spirits. One is, a deceased relative of your wife has been called upon by your wife to look after you. It could also be an immortal spirit (angel, nymph, faerie, etc) that feels bad for you and is trying desperately to comfort you. And, of course, it could be your wife's disembodied spirit. What3ver it is, embrace it, talk to it, enjoy its companionship and protection. Would that we were all as lucky as you to have a life-partner who looks out for us from the other side!

Q. I'm fascinated with ghost pictures and reading different supposedly true stories, so if you know a good website with things like that, that'd be great. Or even better...a website that will list different places (with stories and info) you can actually go to that are said to be haunted. I love going "ghost-hunting" and just seeing places that are supposedly haunted.

A. Your best bet would be to befriend some of the staff and ask them. I'm sure that some of the employees have strange stories. I mean, I have some ironic and "supernatual" stories about the medical center I work in. Most big buildings with a lot of people in them have oddities about them.

A. I disagree. About five years ago I went to look at a home for sale. The moment I walked in the door I felt like I had to leave immediately. I literally felt a chill run down my spine and felt "cold spots" in the living room where I was standing. The guy I was with does *not* believe in ghosts or hauntings or esp or anything paranormal at all. When we got back to the car he asked me what was wrong, and why I acted so strange and had to leave so abruptly. I told him I thought someone had been murdered in that house and I was getting the creeps in there, and actually having somewhat of an anxiety attack. He actually admitted he felt something creepy too. We still had the open house flyer in hand and called the real estate agent. She… [cont.]

A. In Southern California, I'd say the Queen Mary (Long Beach) takes the cake. It was a troop ship during the war. Rumors are rife about paranormal activity - time travel and the like - when it crossed the Bermuda Triangle. These stories actually became the basis for an X-Files episode. There have been several deadly accidents since it was moved to California and became a tourist attraction, which has only added to the creepy reputation. --- In Northern California, Winchester Mystery House (San Jose) and Alcatraz (San Francisco) are supposedly haunted as well. Sarah Winchester, the widow of gun magnate William Wirt Winchester, believed that victims of the company's "products" were trying to kill her. So, she had full of false doors… [cont.]

A. Hi, I do understand your question. First let's clear something up. When we die we do not go anywhere but the grave. Eccl. 9:5: The living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all. Ps. 146:4: His spirit goes out, he goes back to his ground; in that day his thoughts [ thoughts, KJ, 145:4 in Dy; all his thinking, NE; plans, RS, NAB] do perish. Gen. 3:19: In the sweat of your face you will eat bread until you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken. For dust you are and to dust you will return. Eccl. 9:10: All that your hand finds to do, do with your very power, for there is no work nor devising nor knowledge nor wisdom in Sheol [ the grave, KJ, Kx; the world of… [cont.]
